RELDEN Development Update — October 5, 2026
This week, RELDEN development continued to focus on preparing RUN003, the next controlled training run for RELDEN-8B.
Following the issues identified during the previous review, the main question was straightforward: can we ensure that an approved training run starts from exactly the same conditions across different development environments?
This week, an important technical blocker was resolved.
At the same time, one boundary remains clear: RUN003 will not move into productive training until suitable approved computing capacity is available under the conditions defined for the experiment.
What changed this week
During the previous development phase, the independent review of RUN003 identified a remaining reproducibility issue.
The problem was not related to the actual training content. Instead, it came from the way different operating systems can represent certain text files.
Windows and Unix-based systems can handle line endings differently. To a person, the contents of the files appear effectively identical. To a strict integrity verification system, however, they can be treated as different files.
That issue has now been resolved.
The relevant files are now handled consistently across the environments covered by the verification process.
Reproducibility was then tested again.
The previously failing reproducibility check now passes.
This closes the known technical blocker identified during the previous RUN003 review.
Why such a small difference matters
At first glance, something as minor as line-ending handling may seem unrelated to the quality of an AI model.
For controlled model training, however, it matters.
When we compare two training runs, we need to know that they actually started with the same data and configuration.
Otherwise, a difference in the resulting model could potentially come from an unintended change in the experiment rather than the training decision we intended to test.
RELDEN's training process is therefore increasingly treated as a reproducible experiment.
Training data, configuration, and evaluation foundations are defined before a run and then verified.
The fact that RUN003 was previously stopped because of such a small inconsistency was not a failure of the validation process.
It was exactly what that process was designed to do.
RUN003 has reached the next preparation stage
Following the correction, preparation for the productive RUN003 training process continued.
The intended training data and configuration have been verified again, and the evaluation foundations for the experiment have been established before training begins.
This means an important part of the experimental preparation is now complete.
There is, however, an important distinction between being scientifically prepared and actually being trained.
RUN003 has not been started simply because the data and reproducibility checks now pass.
The productive run also depends on suitable approved computing capacity being available under the conditions defined for the experiment.
Until that capacity is available, the training run remains paused.
That means there is still no completed RUN003 model and there are no RUN003 training results to report.
Why we are waiting for the right capacity
It would be possible to change experimental requirements simply to make a training run easier to start.
For RUN003, we deliberately do not want to do that.
The conditions of a controlled experiment should not be changed after the fact simply to match whatever hardware happens to be available.
Doing so could change multiple variables at the same time and make the resulting model harder to evaluate properly.
The sequence therefore remains clear:
First, the data, configuration, and evaluation process are defined.
Then, an appropriate execution environment is used.
Only after those conditions are satisfied does the actual training begin.
If that environment is not available, the run waits.
This may be slower than immediately starting on different infrastructure, but it gives us a much cleaner basis for evaluating the result.
The final evaluation remains untouched
Another important part of the current development strategy is maintaining separation between development and final evaluation.
During development, predefined tests are used to compare model candidates and identify problems.
A separate final evaluation stage is intentionally kept out of these iterations.
That separation remained intact during the current RUN003 work.
The reason is simple.
If a final test is repeatedly used while developing a model, development decisions can gradually become influenced by that specific test.
Over time, it becomes less useful as an independent measure of whether the final model actually improved.
The final evaluation will therefore remain reserved for the point at which a genuine candidate decision is being made.
Current development status
Completed and verified:
The previously identified cross-platform reproducibility issue has been resolved.
The RUN003 foundation now passes the repeated reproducibility verification covered by this development phase.
The intended training data, configuration, and development evaluation foundations have also been prepared and verified for the productive run.
Not yet completed:
The productive RUN003 training run has not taken place.
As a result, there are no verified RUN003 model results yet.
The run remains paused until suitable approved computing capacity becomes available.
This distinction is important.
Successful preparation is a technical milestone, but it is not the same thing as successful model training.
What's next
The next step is not another redesign of RUN003.
The current experimental foundation is intended to remain stable.
Once suitable computing capacity is available under the required conditions, the productive training run can begin.
After that comes the more important stage: evaluation.
RUN003 will need to demonstrate whether RELDEN-8B can become better specialized for the intended RELDEN workloads without losing an unreasonable amount of the broader capabilities of the underlying model.
Only those measurements will determine whether RUN003 represents a genuine improvement over previous candidates.
Until then, the status remains deliberately precise:
RUN003 is prepared and reproducible — but it has not yet been trained or evaluated.
For RELDEN, progress is not about producing new version numbers as quickly as possible.
It is about being able to understand why a model became better or worse, and knowing that the result was produced under controlled conditions.
